This project has been designed at the officer where I work, Mike Jacobs Architecture, in New York. The clients purchased a classic Los Angeles mediterranean style house in Los Feliz that had been owned by the same occupant since the 1940s. The house had multiple additions tacked on, each with its own unique style. Although eclectic, the house lacked a singular identity. The solution involved connecting the new and old spaces through a transitional volume that slipped out of the old house and through the new. The volume was considered to be a “parasite” and a circulation link that created unity between the spaces.
